Welcome to the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists (ACCLXT) official website.
The Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists (ACCLXT) is a non-profit organization and is the regulatory body for Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists in the province of Alberta.
In 1999, the Alberta government passed the Health Professions Act (HPA) which brings all self-regulating health professionals in Alberta under one legislative act. The HPA is omnibus legislation that sets out common rules for professions to govern themselves, and to establish standards to register and discipline members. Most importantly, this legislation establishes rules for Alberta's regulatory colleges to provide safe, and competent services to the public. On April 1, 2006 Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists became regulated under the HPA, Schedule 3.
The ACCLXT has a mandate and responsibility, under the HPA, to protect the public good and is committed to ensuring that all regulated members serve the public in a competent and ethical manner.
The ACCLXT currently registers over 400 members. Members receive their training at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton or at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists are trained in Medical Laboratory, Radiology and Electrocardiography and because of this versatility; work in a variety of settings. Initially designed to meet the needs required in rural hospitals and health care centers, the CLXT graduate can also find employment in other sectors such as urban Medical Laboratories, Diagnostic Imaging clinics and Cardiology departments. |
